Recycling and disposal

An efficient utilisation of waste as well as a safe and environmentally friendly disposal of non-recyclable waste count among the core tasks of raw-material planning and environmental protection. The research field "Recycling and disposal" faces these tasks and performs interdisciplinary research work on the following topics:
 

• The utilisation of mass waste and recycling technologies for disused products and installations (research field "Recycling")

• The energetic and thermal recycling of alternative fuels made from waste (research field "energy recovery and thermal utilisation")

• The safe long-term storage of CO2 deeply underground (research field "CO₂  storage")

• The safe long-term ultimate storage of radioactive and other contaminant-laden waste in deep geological formations (research field "disposal of radioactive waste")
