The efzn: Vision, Mission and Vision Statement

Energy State Lower Saxony! The transformation of the fossil energy system to a future sustainable system offers Lower Saxony great potential to unlock significant growth and development opportunities. Accordingly, the topic of energy is also of great significance in the area of research in Lower Saxony. In order to focus activities in this regard and to bundle competences the Energy Research Centre of Lower Saxony efzn was established in 2007 by the state government.

The Energy Research Centre of Lower Saxony (efzn) has set ambitious goals for itself.

Our vision, mission and vision statement help to achieve these goals:

Vision

Through the excellent interdisciplinary and interinstitutional energy research conducted by its scientists in Lower Saxony, the efzn is paving the way for a climate-neutral and socially just society.

Mission

The efzn brings together energy research expertise from across Lower Saxony.

Our focus is on interdisciplinary and cross-institutional research projects that address complex issues relating to the transformation of the energy system. It is our task to inspire, acquire, and support these projects.

We are an influential point of contact in Lower Saxony and a central forum for future-oriented discourse between science, business, politics, and civil society. We communicate in formats tailored to our goals and audience. In this way, we strengthen science in Lower Saxony and drive forward the transformation to a sustainable energy system supported by society as a whole. Through the excellent interdisciplinary and interinstitutional energy research conducted by its scientists in Lower Saxony, the efzn is paving the way for a climate-neutral and socially just society.

Mission statement

Energy research is an essential key to achieving climate neutrality and climate justice. The efzn inspires and coordinates research and knowledge transfer for a sustainable energy system of the future. In this way, we are making our contribution to this global social challenge.

We are the central research, networking, and communication platform for energy research in Lower Saxony. As such, we bring together the widespread energy research expertise in Lower Saxony. We therefore do not pursue our research goals solely from a technology-oriented perspective based on natural and technical sciences, but also consider them in their economic, social, legal, and ethical contexts. Only through this interplay of disciplines can comprehensive solutions necessary for the transformation of the energy system be developed.

Our cooperation is driven by a passion for interdisciplinary collaboration based on the highest scientific standards. It is founded on diversity, mutual respect, trust, collegiality, transparency, integrity, and a shared identity as energy researchers in Lower Saxony within a German and international context.

The results of our research are intended to have a positive impact on all areas of society. We therefore facilitate access to scientific findings for stakeholders from business, politics, and civil society, and make these findings available for use in discussions of social issues based on the latest research and in future-oriented decisions for the benefit of coming generations.
